Java and many other high-level languages are somehow based on Algol. They developed a language known as Algol. But their starting point was developed in 1958 by a scientific committee for research and scientific uses. There was still time for high-level languages such as Java, C, and C++ to come out. It is the oldest high-level programming language that is still in use. FORTRAN was the first popular programming language that was developed in 1954 by a team in IBM. Brooker for Mark 1.Īutocode was better than its predecessors, but it still failed to gain popularity. It’s the second version, Mark 1 auto code, was developed two years later by R.A. It was the first compiled language that directly converts into machine code using a compiler. In 1952, Autocode was developed by Alick Glennie. A program has to be translated into the machine code every time it ran. It was represented in a mathematical expression that was human-understandable. Shortcode was the first functional programming language. John Mauchly proposed Short Code, originally known as brief code and it was implemented by William F Schmidt. It was in 1949 that the first-ever high-level programming language for electronic computers was created. He developed Plankalkül between 19, but for some reason, it was not implemented. Konrad Zuse purpose the idea of the first-ever high-level languages.
